The Challenge: Moving from Fuze to a new system

A long-time Fuze customer, Lacks Furniture was looking to upgrade its communications system, so the IT team decided to review several different solutions. “We tested several different options,” says Mobashir Ahmed, Senior IT Director at Lacks, but none of them were exactly what he was looking for.

Then, by chance, Ahmed heard that 8x8 had acquired Fuze. Coincidentally, Ahmed had worked with 8x8 at his previous place of employment, Fred Loya Insurance Agency, so he was familiar with the platform. He knew right away that he wanted to bring 8x8 to Lacks Furniture.

Ahmed and his team reached out to their 8x8 account manager about making the switch, and then worked with 8x8 technical support to fast-track Lacks migration from Fuze to 8x8.

The Solution: Fast-tracked, painless migration to 8x8

Working with the 8x8 team, Lacks had a quick and painless migration, with their existing Fuze contract carried over to 8x8 as they moved onto the 8x8 platform. With 8x8 Work, employees at Lacks Furniture can now stay connected via voice, video, sms and chat, no matter where they are.

With 300 employees across multiple locations, and a large team working out of their headquarters in Pharr, Texas. Lacks has a mix of hybrid and in-office employees, so they needed a flexible solution to fit the needs of every employee, some of whom use desk phone almost exclusively, while others prefer to use the softphone option, with the 8x8 Work app on their desktop and/or smartphone.

In the end, the entire process took only two days. “On the first day we migrated our smaller stores,” explains Ahmed. “And there were no problems, so on the second day we migrated everything else.”

The Result: “They love it”

Moving communications to 8x8 has brought some major improvements to Lacks Furniture. On an employee level, teammates have an easier time staying connected, with seamless collaboration across multiple locations. “They love it,” says Ahmed, when asked about the general response after the transition.

From the admin side of things, leaders at Lacks now have more analytics tools and insights into their operations. “We have greater visibility on recordings and stats, and just overall management,” says Ahmed. “Before 8x8, we had two different systems on top of each other, so to make changes, we had to do the same thing in two different places. Now, we have everything all in one place with 8x8.”

When asked what advice he might give to a Fuze customer who’s considering making the switch to 8x8, Ahmed’s response was simple: do it. “They need to move,” he said. “It’s day and night.”
