How a VoIP Business Phone App From 8x8 Saved the Deal

It was mid-January (Monday the 14th). Everyone else was out of the office, so I was alone. An important proposal interview was scheduled for 2:00 p.m., over the phone. The prospective client, a local government agency, was going to call me.
I did what anyone would do: About fifteen minutes before the call, I went down the hall to the bathroom. We always lock our office suite when no one else is in, even when leaving for just a minute. When I got back to the office door, a wave of panic came over me. I had, for some reason, taken my office keys out of my pocket earlier in the day and put them on my desk. With just minutes before the call was to come in, I was stuck.
I called my COO, who was on his way back to the office but still at least 30 minutes away. Then I remembered that I had the 8x8 app on my iPhone. With just a minute to spare and a few clicks, I logged into the 8x8 mobile app, and waited.
As I stood outside my office door, I heard the reception desk phone ring. I waited, still not 100 percent sure the client would press my extension or that app would come through. Then, seconds later, my cell phone rang.
It was not ideal to do the interview in the hall, but the prospect didn’t know the difference, and it went great. Without 8x8 and the iPhone app, the clients would have been dropped into my voicemail, and I probably wouldn’t have ever heard from them again.
