To learn more about the daily lives of our Team8s working in different parts of the business, we created this blog series featuring some special guests. Today we sat down with Lance Mabingnay, Manager for Customer Onboarding at 8x8, located in the Philippines.

8x8: Lance, thanks for accepting our invitation. To start us off, would you mind sharing a few things about yourself and what you do at 8x8?

Lance Mabingnay (LM): Sure! I am one of the Managers for Customer Onboarding here at 8x8, I’m based in Manila, and have been with the company for almost a year now. On the personal side, I value family more than anything. I make sure that I spend quality time bonding with my wife and daughter, whether it’s going shopping together or simply watching movies at home. As for myself, I enjoy petting my dog (it’s a pug) and riding my bicycle whenever I have the opportunity.

“I feel very fortunate to support the development of other individuals in this field.”

8x8: Did you always know that you wanted to pursue a career in telecommunications?

LM: I was introduced to the world of telecommunications almost 16 years ago, when I first joined the corporate world. I was very much drawn to it and soon came to the realization that this was the field that I wanted to pursue a career in.

Since then, I have only worked in telecommunication companies. I love learning new things, and have found it very enjoyable to work and to learn new things during all these years as technology progressed.

8x8: How did you experience your transition to a people manager role?

LM: As I’ve transitioned to managing people, I have discovered new skill sets that I want to continue to develop to be effective in my role. I feel very fortunate to support the development of other individuals in this field.

8x8: What are your thoughts on hybrid work?

LM: I think hybrid work helps with work-life balance. It gives back time for travel, which instead can be spent for personal improvement and to increase productivity.

8x8: What about working from home? What’s the most challenging thing for you and how do you manage to stay on top of your work?

LM: Personally, I find that power interruptions and unstable internet connectivity are the most challenging aspects when it comes to working from home, so having backup internet and power supply can truly come in handy. As for keeping organized, I mostly rely on my to-do list (and I always have one) and on making good use of my calendar.

8x8: What is your morning routine for a good day?

LM: I always start my day with a nice cup of coffee. It helps me jumpstart my day and keeps me active.

8x8: What about after work, how do you recharge?

LM: I find that getting sufficient sleep is one of the most beneficial things to do to keep my energy levels up. Taking morning walks in the park is also something I love to do during my rest days. Feeling the gentle touch of a cool breeze on my face and the smell of fresh trees truly helps me unwind, recharge, and be ready for another work week.

8x8: What’s something surprising that not many people know about you?

LM: I enjoy listening to songs by The Beatles.

8x8: What do you most like about working at 8x8?

LM: The people. I feel appreciated and I am getting the support needed to be effective on my job.

8x8: One final piece of advice you’d like to share with anyone interested in joining our team?

LM: You’d be joining a company where you can grow and develop.
