TAUNTON DEANE BOROUGH COUNCIL TO IMPLEMENT ADVANCED CLOUD BASED TELEPHONY SYSTEM
Pioneering council will empower employees to work remotely and be more productive
London – 8th November 2016 – Taunton Deane Borough Council (TDBC) is introducing cloud-based technology to improve staff productivity and service for residents. From early December employees in the first of its sites will benefit from the advanced cloud telephony, provided by 8x8, a leading provider of Enterprise Communications as a Service (ECaaS). This will give staff access to a full service business phone system wherever they may be working.
With more than 140,000 local residents, TDBC needed a system in place that allows its employees to work efficiently across its sites, whilst also being suitable for remote and home working staff. The roll-out will give its staff access to advanced telephony features, such as intelligent call routing so residents are directed to the most appropriately skilled agent first time. The new cloud system will also improve internal communications.
As 8x8’s communications systems are based completely in the cloud, TDBC can quickly increase and decrease the number of staff working, based on demand. TDBC needed a provider that could quickly replace its existing legacy system to open an additional site in early December, before rolling out to further sites and staff in early 2017.
Like all councils facing ever increasing financial pressures, a key criteria for TDBC’s selection process was ensuring any new system was value for money, both in terms of initial outlay and ongoing maintenance, whilst also delivering a great service for residents. That’s why it chose 8x8, which is financially viable for the long term and does not require expensive updates that plague legacy systems.
Security is of paramount importance to TDBC to protect residents’ sensitive data. 8x8’s accreditation under the UK Government’s Cyber Essentials scheme gave TDBC the peace of mind that its system was secure and robust. 8x8’s network has comprehensive measures in place to deter cyber crime and has been proven secure for clients both in the private and public sector. 8x8 is also fully compliant with PCI DSS standards for call recording when taking customer payments.
Fiona Kirkham, ICT and Information Manager, Taunton Deane Borough Council and West Somerset Council, said: “We’re always looking at how we can innovate and improve our systems to help residents in Taunton and the surrounding area. It’s important for us to use cutting edge technology to make sure we are as efficient as possible and ensure local residents receive the best possible support. The 8x8 team is really supportive, working quickly and efficiently so that we can meet our very tight launch deadlines.”
Kevin Scott-Cowell, UK MD of 8x8, said: “It’s fantastic for us to be associated with an innovative council like Taunton, supporting them in their cloud objectives. We are looking forward to working together to improve staff productivity and service to residents.”
