Residential Services Support Upgrade

BPG510
Caution: Use this firmware only with BPG510 adapters.
To Automatically upgrade your BPG510
Click on: BPG510 Upgrader you downloaded from the Downloads page.
The BPG510 Upgrade Assistant is a program that runs in Microsoft Windows and will auto-detect and upgrade your BPG510.

Follow these steps:

  1. Download this program by clicking above.
  2. Disable Norton Internet Security, Zone Alarm or similar firewall programs before upgrading.
  3. Connect a computer directly to the LAN port of your BPG510.
  4. Run the program and click the "Auto-Detect BPG510 (s)" button.
  5. Once your BPG510 is found, select it in the application window. It should be labeled "BPG510 version 1.0 US."
  6. Click "Upgrade BPG510."
  7. Wait a few minutes for the process to complete.
  8. When the BPG510 is upgraded, a green light under "MAC Address" indicates you are up-to-date.

Alternative method to upgrading your BPG510

  1. Download the BPG510 program file (right-click and save or in a browser, just click on the link): BPG510 Alternate Upgrader.
  2. Connect a computer with a web browser directly to the LAN port of your BPG510.
  3. Type http://192.168.88.1 (the default IP address of your BPG510)
  4. You will now get prompted for a password, use the default password: "admin" (without the quotes)
  5. You should now see the BPG510's System Information Screen.
  6. In the menu bar down the left side of the screen, select "Upgrade Firmware."
  7. In the "Filename" field, use the "Browse" button to find the file you saved.
  8. Click "Start" for the firmware upgrade.
  9. Using Internet Explorer, at the bottom of the screen you will see progress messages like:
    1. "Booting into Downloader Mode. Please wait..."
    2. "Performing Firmware Upgrade. Please wait..."
  10. Please wait approximately five minutes for the procedure to complete. You will see the message "Download Successful."
  11. Click the "Restart Main Application" button on the web page.
  12. You will now get prompted for a password, use the default password: "admin" (without the quotes)

BPA430
To manually upgrade your Broadband Phone Adapter (non-windows users), follow these steps:

  1. Download the Broadband Phone Adapter program file (right-click and save or in a browser, just click on the link). BPA430 - Residential Services Alternate Upgrader.
  2. Lift the handset from your phone then use a pointed tip (such as a paper clip) to push the reset button on the back of the phone adapter once. Listen on the handset for the IP address of the phone adapter. (Note: To upgrade, please make sure the phone is plugged in the LINE 1 port to get the IP address.)
  3. Open a web browser and enter the Broadband Phone Adapter's IP address and press "Enter."
  4. Click "Download" or "Upgrade Firmware" on the left side of the web page.
  5. In the "Filename" field, use the "Browse" button to find the file you saved.
  6. Click "Start HTTP Download."
  7. Using Internet Explorer, on the bottom of the screen you will see progress messages like: "Booting into Downloader Mode. Please wait..." "Performing Firmware Upgrade. Please wait..."
  8. Please wait approximately five minutes for the procedure to complete. You will see the message "Download Successful."
  9. Click the "Restart Main Application" button on the web page.

Note: if you are using a Windows 2000/XP PC as your router, the Broadband Phone Adapter will get a new IP address upon booting into the downloader. Use the arp -a command from Start -> Run -> CMD to find out what the new IP address is and repeat the manual process above.

The DTA310/BPA410 Upgrade Assistant is a program that runs in Microsoft Windows and will auto-detect and upgrade your DTA310/BPA410.

To automatically upgrade your DTA310 or BPA410, follow these steps:

Softalk
To upgrade your Softalk, follow this procedure:

  1. Go to 'Start' then 'Programs' on your computer where Softalk program is loaded.
  2. Select '8x8 Softalk' and choose 'Uninstall 8x8 Softalk'.
  3. Download the Softalk program file (right-click and save or in a browser, just click on the link): Softalk Upgrader
  4. After you download the Softalk program, click on it and open the file. A set up Wizard will pop up and provide simple instructions.
  5. Follow the instructions until you get to the 'Finish' button.

8x8 Videophone DV326
To upgrade your VideoPhone, follow this procedure:

  1. Go to your 8x8 (DV326) VideoPhone.
  2. Press the 'Menu' button to bring up the "System Menu."
  3. Use the down arrow button to highlight "Configuration."
  4. Press the 'Menu' button to bring up the "Configuration" menu.
  5. Use the down arrow to highlight "System Maintenance."
  6. Press the 'Menu' button to bring up the "System Maintenance" menu.
  7. Use the down arrow to highlight "Upgrade Firmware."
  8. Press Menu button to bring up the "Upgrade Firmware?" menu.
  9. Select "Yes" by pressing "Menu" button to initiate firmware upgrade.
  10. A "Firmware Upgrade Progress" screen will appear and display a white bar moving across the screen beneath "Application Firmware" and "Video Firmware" as each firmware is uploaded to your VideoPhone.
  11. Wait for few minutes until the procedure is completed.
  12. When the procedure is completed, the VideoPhone should automatically reboot itself. If for some reason it does not, simply manually reboot it by turning the unit off and then back on.

Alternative Method to Upgrade 8x8 VideoPhone: DV326 Upgrade Assistant

If you are having difficulty upgrading via the VideoPhone or need to upgrade multiple units, you can employ the DV326 Upgrade Assistant program that runs in Microsoft Windows and will auto-detect and upgrade your DV326(s).
Follow these steps:

  1. Download the program by clicking on: 8x8 Videophone DV326 Upgrader.
  2. Disable "Norton Internet Security", "Zone Alarm" or similar firewall programs before the upgrade.
  3. Run the program and click the "Auto-Detect DV326(s)" button.
  4. Once your DV326 is found, select it in the application window. It should be labeled 'BVP ver00xxxx, VCP ver000xxx'.
  5. Click "Upgrade DV326."
  6. Wait a few minutes for the process to complete.
  7. When the DV326 is upgraded, a green light under 'MAC Address' indicates you are up to date.

Tango Videophone
To Automatically upgrade your Tango:

Follow these steps

  1. Go to your 8x8 Tango (VTA464).
  2. Press the 'Menu' button to bring up the "Phonebook, Call Logs, Setup and Status” menu.
  3. Press the “Status” menu. (The round button below the “Status” menu).
  4. Press the “Admin” menu' to bring up the "Administration" menu.
  5. Use the down arrow button to highlight "Upgrade Firmware."
  6. Press the 'Select' button, it will bring up the pop up message "Are you sure you want to initiate an automatic firmware upgrade?"
  7. Select "Yes" by pressing "right arrow" next to "Menu" button to initiate firmware upgrade.
  8. Wait for few minutes until the procedure is completed.
  9. When the procedure is completed, the Tango VTA464 should automatically reboot itself. If for some reason it does not, simply manually reboot it by turning the unit off and then back on.

Alternative Method to Upgrade 8x8 VideoPhone: Tango VTA464 Upgrade Assistant
If you are having difficulty upgrading via the VideoPhone or need to upgrade multiple units, you can employ the Tango VTA464 Upgrade Assistant program that runs in Microsoft Windows and will auto-detect and upgrade your Tango(s).
