"We purchased our call center solution from 8x8 about 18 months ago. It has been running great allowing us to support our customers 24/7. One of the benefits was the ease of use in the unlikely event of a disaster. Well on November 29th, Hurricane Sandy made an unlikely event turn into a real situation causing severe damage along the entire east coast. We have a call center in the middle of New York City, and with the tremendous impact on all mass transportation, it was impossible for our call center employees to get into the office to help support our customers. As part of the implementation of the Call Center solution, we deployed laptops for all Call Center Representatives and this proved to pay back in huge dividends. During and in the days following Hurricane Sandy making landfall in the NYC area, the entire NYC Center team was able to work remotely as long as they had an Internet connection.  They were able to provide service to customers by simply using their cell phones and laptops.
