Number Transfer enables customers in the United States to transfer their existing telephone number (traditional or Internet-based) from one phone service provider to another. With 8x8 Internet Phone Service, you can request that your number be transferred free of charge at anytime during the initial order process or even after you have become an 8x8 subscriber, as long as you maintain phone service for the number you want to transfer.

You will be able to submit and track the number porting process online. Although 8x8 makes every attempt to work with all telephone service providers across the United States, certain local or regional guidelines may preclude us from being able to transfer your number to 8x8. In such cases, a new number from 8x8 would be provided. The process may take 6-8 weeks to complete. This transfer time can be dramatically reduced if all forms are correctly filled out with accurate information. During the transfer process, 8x8 will provide a temporary phone number that is your option to keep. After your number has been transferred to 8x8, your old phone service should be turned off. However, you may want to contact your old phone service to confirm this.

If you are an existing 8x8 Virtual Office customer:

  1. Log into your account through the 8x8 self service portal
  2. Select the specific account to transfer your existing phone number to
  3. Scroll down and select LNP request
  4. Complete the online questionnaire
  5. Complete the online Letter of Authorization (LOA)
  6. Fax a copy of your most recent bill (no more than 30 days old) to 408-533-1155

 If you are a new 8x8 residential customer:

  1. When placing your order, select "Yes" under "Keep Your Existing Phone Number" and then select “Continue”
  2. Complete the online questionnaire (during the order process)
  3. Complete your online Letter of Authorization (LOA)

If you are an existing 8x8 residential subscriber:

  1. Log into your account through the 8x8 self service portal
  2. Select the specific account to transfer your existing phone number to
  3. Scroll down and select LNP request
  4. Complete the online questionnaire
  5. Complete your online Letter of Authorization (LOA)
To transfer your toll free number to 8x8 Virtual Office, follow this procedure:
  1. Log into your account through the 8x8 self service portal
  2. Complete the online questionnaire
  3. Download and complete the Toll Free LOA form (this is the toll free letter of authorization)
  4. Fax a copy of your most recent bill (no more than 30 days old) to 408-533-1155

After submitting a Number Transfer request, you will receive updates via email. You can also check your Number Transfer status through your 8x8 self service portal by clicking on the LNP (Local Number Portability) status button on the left menu.

Can I switch numbers if I'm in an existing contract?

Sure, but you will be responsible for any early termination fees charged by your current carrier for exiting the contract, plus any balance owed on your account.

Yes. As opposed to traditional telecom service providers, our services are as mobile as you are. With all our accounts, you can keep your phone numbers from another city regardless of where you are located. That is one of the great benefits of 8x8 Internet Phone Service.

Are toll free numbers transferable?

Yes, all toll free numbers are transferable to 8x8.

How long will it take to transfer my number?

For most numbers, we can port your number in as little as 8 calendar days from receiving the order with all correct information and documentation. Toll free number portability generally takes two to five weeks. During the process, you can view your number portability status and updates by logging into your Self Service Portal account.

Will I experience a lapse in service?

It is possible you may not experience a lapse in service, however due to the various time zones and different company procedures, your number may experience some provisioning downtime. We will do everything we can to make sure if downtime does occur that it is brief.

My DSL uses my requested number. Can I transfer it without losing my DSL?

No. You cannot transfer a number that has DSL associated with it. You can sign up for cable or satellite service and then you can transfer the number to 8x8. Or, you can contact your current provider and ask for a new number for your DSL, have the DSL switched to the new number then port your old number.

If I transfer my number, will I have to cancel my account with the other provider myself or will you do that?

In most cases, your provider will automatically disconnect your account when the number transfers. However, we encourage you to contact your provider to ensure they have disconnected the service.
